My Dad Had A Heart Attack

A few days before Christmas, my sister Kathleen called to tell me our dad had just had a heart attack.  He was being rushed to the hospital, mom was with him, and other than this, she didn’t have anymore information.  We spoke for about 3 or 4 minutes before hanging up.  I remember thinking this couldn’t be happening; but it was.

I felt lost and powerless.  I wondered if this was it; perhaps I’d never get to talk with my dad again.

Looking back on that day, what amazes me most is how all-of-a-sudden this happened.  But heart disease doesn’t happen all-of-a-sudden.  The choices we make today, and every day, are the building blocks for our health tomorrow.  Why do most of us wait until we have our first heart attack before we begin to address the issues of health and wellness?  In this blog article, I want to look at the answer to this question and offer what I believe a workable solution looks like.

When Restaurant Professionals Burnout

It is a reality every restaurant owner, chef and manager will deal with time and time again.  And it never feels good; so, many times we just want to ignore it.  But in truth, burnout is an all-too-familiar phenomenon in restaurants, and at all levels.

The cost of burnout is quite high due to both the financial costs involved in higher turnover rates and the interpersonal toll it takes on co-worker relationships.

As a restaurant professional, realize that 1) you may be experiencing burnout, or 2) perhaps you’re dealing with employees who are.

Either way, your early recognition can prevent a lot of damage, including hurt feelings, a lack of productivity, and a lowering of morale.
